Wiley Smith, MD

Dr. Wiley Smith was born and raised in Massachusetts. He attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1993. He worked for several years doing research in the biotechnology sector first at Cambridge NeuroScience, Inc. and later at Genzyme Corp. In 1998 he accepted a commission in the United States Navy and matriculated to military’s medical school located in Bethesda, Maryland. He graduated from the Uniformed Services University School of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine in 2002. He completed his internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia in 2003. After internship he entered the rigorous Navy Diver program and graduated as an Undersea Medical Officer in 2004. He had the honor to serve the next 3 years with the fast-attack submarines home ported at Naval Station Pearl Harbor. After successfully completing his Undersea Medical Officer tour in Hawaii he was accepted into the Dermatology residency program at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. During his senior year his instructors and fellow residents selected him for the coveted Hollander Award for Outstanding Resident. He finished his military career at Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois helping to oversee the health care needs of the Navy’s boot camp and local retiree population.
